strength of AWWA is the breadth and depth of members' technical
expertise. Your job as our Government Affairs Manager is to deliver
that knowledge to federal policymakers. You'll also be responsible
for making sure the water sector is aware of and understands
changes in federal policy. Along with your colleagues, you'll
represent AWWA's members at various events delivering accurate,
science-based recommendations, fostering dialogue on technically
challenging policy questions, and translating science to lay
audiences.AWWA operates on a hybrid reporting schedule with at
least 3 days in the DC office, which is conveniently located just
one block from the McPherson Square Metro station. This position
requires up to 30% travel.Essential Functions
- Prepare technical deliverables such as work papers, comments,
presentations, and publications for peer-review journals. Represent
AWWA in a variety of forums including technical policy dialogues
with federal decision makers.
- Assess regulatory and federal policy activity relative to the
water sector and, with relevant internal and external partners,
develop and implement plans and actions to achieve AWWA's
regulatory agenda.
- Manage policy development and targeted research projects to be
responsive to current and anticipated member and association needs
and position AWWA as a credible voice on behalf of the sector to
key federal decision makers.
- Represent AWWA in internal and external events such as
meetings, workshops, and conferences as the voice of and advocate
for members on both assigned topics and other topics as
appropriate.
- Prepare work products (e.g., magazine and website articles,
editorials, peer-reviewed journal articles, etc.) to disseminate
information to members, water sector, and other key audiences.
- Perform other duties as assigned including but not limited to
organizing team meetings, phone conferences, and training as
needed.
- Know, understand and follow employee guidelines, employment
policies and department or company procedures.
- Work on special projects as directed.QualificationsEducation,
Certifications or Formal Training:
- Master's degree in engineering, chemistry, biology,
environmental science or related field required.
- PhD and/or Professional Engineer license preferred.Work
Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years' experience in drinking water,
wastewater, or a related environmental field demonstrating required
technical, scientific, or engineering experience.
- Demonstrated experience interacting with state or federal
agencies on issues related to regulatory development or
compliance.
- Demonstrated knowledge of water utility operations.
- Demonstrated ability to lead team efforts to identify
deliverables needed, effectively construct, and deliver those
finished deliverables in a timely manner.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines and
priorities in a fast-paced, evolving work environment with shifting
time frames, with attention to both details and overarching
goals.Compensation/BenefitsPay is dependent upon qualifications;
Pay range is targeted between $135,000 - $151,337 per year and is
paired with a comprehensive benefits package that includes:
- Immediate eligibility and vesting for retirement savings plan
with a 6% employer contribution and 3% company match upon
hire.
