change the world. In this vital role, you will join an exciting
team that drives novel approaches in decision-making, portfolio
analytics, and insights to maximize the value of Amgen's
pipeline.You're an AI/ML software engineer who is intellectually
curious with a proven track record of developing and implementing
technology-centric solutions in the project and portfolio
management space. We're looking for a software development
professional who is skilled and knowledgeable in portfolio
management, analytics, and reporting. You bring experience
implementing AI technology solutions to portfolio management and
analytics within the biotechnology industry.The Commercialization
Portfolio AI, Data Scientist reports to the Director of Amgen's
Portfolio Reporting & Systems Team within the Portfolio Management
Office. We are open to discussions about location flexibility or
remote work arrangements. However, due to the nature of the work,
co-location with the headquarters in Thousand Oaks is
preferred.Commercialization is the framework for bringing molecules
from the lab through the clinic and to patients. There are few
processes that are more central to Amgen than
Commercialization.Responsibilities
- Develops and executes on Amgen's Commercialization (CMZ) data
strategy in alignment with the overall CMZ technology and reporting
roadmap. Partners with cross-functional teams to translate business
needs into technical solutions.
- Collaborates with Amgen's Digital Technology & Innovation (DTI)
team to implement AI/ML solutions in support of the CMZ technology
roadmap and represents CMZ for enterprise-wide AI initiatives.
- Oversees development and implementation of portfolio reporting
large language model (LLM) chatbot.
- Designs, builds, and optimizes AI and machine learning models
to support portfolio management, forecasting, risk assessment, and
decision-making.
- Develops and maintains scalable, responsive web applications
and APIs for portfolio analytics and reporting. Ensures robust
back-end systems that integrate AI-driven insights into
organizational tools and workflows to drive efficiencies and
automation.
- Provides recommendations for technical implementation of AI/ML
solutions to support portfolio-level decision-making and insights
generation. Evaluates and improves existing AI models to enhance
performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Integrates multiple cross-functional data sets into a single
reporting platform.
- Generates insights and analyzes portfolio data for key
decision-makers to maximize value at the asset and/or portfolio
levels.
- Contributes to the creation of a high-performance operating
culture throughout the organization which emphasizes teamwork,

qualifications.Basic Qualifications:Doctorate degree and 2 years of
relevant experienceOrMasters degree and 4 years of relevant
experienceOrBachelors degree and 6 years of relevant experience in
Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related
field.OrAssociate degree and 10 years of relevant experience in
Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related
field.OrHigh School Diploma / GED and 12 years of relevant
experience in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a
related field.Additional Requirements
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, JavaScript
(React, Node.js), and Java.
- Expertise in machine learning frameworks and libraries
(TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, etc.).
- Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and
containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with databases (SQL, NoSQL) and data pipelines (ETL,
Apache Airflow, PySpark, etc.).
- Familiarity with version control systems (Git) and CI/CD
pipelines.
- Understanding of the evolving AI/ML technological landscape and
utilization of these technologies within the life sciences
industry. Proven track record to implement technical solutions to
analyze large datasets across a broad portfolio.
- Ability to implement predictive analytic models on complex
timelines, both at the project and portfolio levels.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, self-confidence,
decisiveness, and risk-taking without being impulsive; has the
presence to manage through a crisis. Advocates strategic positions
in the face of uncertainty.
- Ability to generate insights and provide trade-off analyses to
decision-makers to maximize value at the asset and portfolio levels
on both a regional and global basis.
- Independent, motivated team member proficient working within
high-performance teams and a matrixed organization.Preferred
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in Computer Science or Computer
Engineering.
- Certification in Decision Analysis or Decision Science.
- Industry experience in the Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical, or
other Healthcare-related field.
- Some drug development knowledge with basic to strong
understanding of other functions relevant to the position which may
include: Research, Preclinical, Clinical, Manufacturing,
Commercial, and Regulatory.
- Emotional intelligence skills including influencing without
authority.Proven ability to influence and lead teams in a
high-performance environment. Skilled in collaborating with
business stakeholders to understand their needs and translating
those needs into actionable technical requirements. This individual
must possess the technical expertise to design and implement
solutions, including hands-on programming and development, and take

expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding
Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several
factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience,
